We had a booking in June but had to cancel because of the financial implications of the Coronavirus. This was done on March 18th and an acknowledgment was received confirming this shortly after. However despite this a whopping £582 was taken out of my account last month. This has caused a lot of financial hardship and stress at a time when I least needed it. Your company has been very uncompromising stating that only bookings made up until May 31st could be refunded. WHY? And why did you go ahead and debit my account after canceling the booking three months before and why won't you refund my money? We tried to have this money refunded and my sister (who the booking was made under) was coerced into taking another one-a whole year away. She is elderly and vulnerable and unable to stand up to the hard sell tactics of your agents. We now have a holiday we didn't want nor could afford but have been charged for regardless. This is booked over a year from now and no one knows what the situation will be like then. Your actions have been shamefu, selfishl and insensitive to say the least. Please refund the money wrongly taken from my credit card with immediate effect. Anyone reading this please take note of the kind of company they are.

I am disgusted with this company. I had to cancel my holiday booked for 17th July. My family cannot travel from Thailand because of coronavirus. I still had to pay 216 pounds to cancel. I booked this in December. I am self employed so am not earning at the moment. Took out insurance . They can't help either because it's not in the lockdown period. People can not travel to the uk from Thailand for the foreseeable future. Had to cancel now because the full amount was being taken out of my bank on 5th June. You would think that they would consider having to cancel through no fault of our own

It's quite a shame I have to even give this company a 1 star rating... This horrendous company has ignored every single email I have sent them over a 2 month period, their response over the pandemic has been nothing but a disgrace. They have essentially stolen my grandfathers pension and thousands of other peoples money too. When I finally decided enough was enough, I went onto social media to spread the word of my distaste for these cowboys, they blocked me! Yep, they didn't have the time or courtesy to respond to any of my emails but they have time to block me on social media. This company's reputation is clearly more important than their customers. As long as I have breath in my lungs, I am going to be relentless in bringing this company to its knees... I know thousands of you are in the same situation as me also, I urge you to keep persisting with them and spread the word far and wide to steer clear of these scumbags.

I too have been subjected to "Shady Sykes" after having booked to go on 15th May, I was given the choice of-: change booking dates (my circumstances wouldn't allow that) or cancel by paying the balance of the deposit (£157 on top of the £20). If I didn't, they were taking the full amount of £470 by 3rd April. My credit card company said I had to pay, as at the time of booking, I had agreed to Shady Sykes' terms and conditions. I have now joined a Facebook group, dedicated to those members being fleeced by that company. It is fantastic. A prominent lawyer, Dean Durham, has offered his services, and issued templates of letters to send, along with other advices. The group is called COVID-19 SYKES COTTAGES. Lots of people, through perseverance, have had their money back. I'm not giving up, even though my loss is much less than some. Good luck everyone- and bad luck Shady Sykes!

Booked with Dream Cottages a sub company of Sykes. Paid £380 deposit in December for Fisherman’s Steps West Bay. Due to go 4th July but tried to contact The company several times by email as I was taking 89 year old mother with COPD And she needs to stay home where we are looking after her. I would have booked for next year if they had agreed but could get no reply. I even offered the deposit to be held against a future date but no reply. Cancelled yesterday as the balance would have been due today. Have written requesting refund but given the track record suspect they will not reply. They have lost a customer for sure. I wonder what the flat owner thinks of the way they act on their behalf. So have lost £380 at this time. Appalling. I know of other companies who have been far more customer friendly. No telephone number available for them.

Like previous reviews, a very bad experience so far! They took our money upfront (£1800) when booking, but then cancelled our booking a day later following government advice. No refund and no reply for several weeks. I’ve been asked to rebook, but all other weeks more than double the cost! They’re super unhelpful, no guidance and no understanding. I just hope we’ll get our money back! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY!!

Do not book with Sykes holiday cottages. If you have to cancel like we did because of coronavirus. They will keep all your money.. No refunds giving. Also we had towergate insurance. Not covered. So avoid avoid avoid.

My wife and I had the unfortunate experience of booking a holiday with Sykes to celebrate a very special family event. Like so many others of their we are totally dumbfounded by their handling of the situation. They effectively cancelled our booking by telling us not to travel to our accommodation on the date booked but still expected FULL PAYMENT before they would consider a refund? We paid the low deposit of £20 and bought their holiday insurance (which is totally worthless) but that is all they will be getting. Fortunately we had time to cancel our card so they were unable to fleece us any further. We are now receiving the obligitry threatening e-mails but are determined to stay strong and fight them at every turn. We did seek advice and were told told categorically NOT TO PAY ANOTHER PENNY. Basically what they are trying to do is tantamount to extortion and in the current climate of Covid 19 abhorrent and immoral in the extreme. By the way do not believe any of the five star reviews on Trustpilot as this website is only a mouthpiece for this rogue company.

I'd be more than happy to join a group response against this awful collective and disgraceful ripping off of their customers. Perhaps we should start a vociferous campaign against Sykes on social media, or take a more official approach and lodge a combined complaint through the ombudsman? The most important aspect of all these negative reviews is to warn the public not to book with Sykes.

I would appear to be in the same position as everyone else regarding holidays. We were due to go to Wales on 11th July. Balance was due on 28 May. I had been holding off in the hope that lock down restrictions may be relaxed by then but as it appeared less likely I attempted to contact Sykes with no joy to cancel the holiday. I have had no response at all. I have today cancelled the holiday but have to pay the remainder of the deposit (I booked on the £20 deal.) Poor service by Sykes - by comparison we had to cancel a city break to Berlin in March, one email later and the money was back in my account, no arguments. Will never book with Sykes again

Hi We are in the same boat, booked for 6th June and was told we could rebook so rebooked for 26th June. Due to lockdown won’t be able to go. They have taken our full money £367. In hindsight should have cancelled credt card. Like the rest of you I have sent 6 emails since last Saturday but no response and of course can’t be contacted by phone. If as a group I would be more than happy to join up to take this further. I did contact my credit card company but only by chat line and was given the impression that I couldn’t apply for money back via them. Absolutely disgusting. What a bad bad company.

High vulnerability customers advised not to travel in September by HM Government and own GP during Covid19 crisis. Yet Sykes Cottages demanded full deposit payment for cancelled booking and an immediate threat of legal action. Wholly unsympathetic and arrogance towards customer satisfaction given the unique circumstances we find ourselves in. DON'T BOOK WITH THEM.

So i paid a £30 deposit on a cottage for 10th July. Given we were taking my in-laws who are over 80, and self isolating, we do not feel we can go. Sykes emailed me today telling me that they are taking the balance at the end of May, but i can log into my account to change. So this is where it goes wrong, as i tried and it wont let me as its more than 30 days before i'm due to go away, but by then, they will have my full payment. If i try and cancel, they suddenly want to charge me £250, not £30. I cant ring them, no reply, i cant email them (cant find a contact). This is disgusting service and apart from the fact i will never use them again, i feel left high and dry.

Sorry to clien ts and customers alike of Sykes holiday cottages, only able to tick one star and not ZERO. Have over the years booked over ten holidays with them BUT NEVER EVER again. We outlined because of government restrictions unable to holiday at the Shamrock Cotage, Church Street, Bradwell, Peak district. Sykes are insisting we travel and holiday at this Cottage. They are claiming we owe them over £300-00 and hope the owners know what damage they are doing to them. For your sanity STAY AWAY from this company.

Our holiday should have been in April but due to the lockdown, obviously unable to go. Still waiting for £499 refund despite the holiday 'finishing' over 6 weeks ago. They have made it pretty impossible to contact them - no telephone access and only generic emails bouncing back. Very poor service!

Awful company. Similar story to others. Told to move and that no refund available. Turns out this was not correct. Now got another trip booked for June which we will not go on. Told we can move but we can't. Now absolutely no contact and told no guarantee of refund if lockdown extended. They then tried to charge me £140 extra after saying the week we rebooked would be the same price. They did waive this (generous I know), but was hassle sorting it out. Spoke to owner of property who is equally disgusted with this company. She is lovely and has offered a refund of what Sykes paid her, should the lockdown extend over our new dates. Terrible customer services and a terrible approach to the pandemic situation, will never book with again.

Paid in full ahead of holiday but had no communication from Sykes to advise if it was still open. Unable to take holiday due to lockdown and a Sykes refuse to refund the amount or any part of it. This for a holiday firm we have used for years. Never again
