Like the 1000s of others ripped off over the covid-19 Pandemic, Sykes were rude, unprofessional, greedy, unapologetic and irresponsible. We finally got in touch with the cottage owners who were really nice and they slammed off the company too.

Customer service ? Non exisant! Emails not responded to and no phone line due to covid. Trying to amend our july holiday but will not respond until they have FULL payment 6 weeks before. Insurance we took out not worth the paper it's written on. 1st time booking with Sykes and will NEVER do it again and make sure everyone I know is aware. Other companies have completely refunded and earned my future business! Appalling. No ability to give 0 stars!!!

Disgusting treatment of customers. Treating everyone differently, if you trust Trustpilot 5 star reviews on this company. Communication levels Zilch until it comes for asking for money for holidays unlikely to be taken. Then if you don’t pay the balance (actually their commission 30%) nasty emails..generic of course. Never ever again, too much pressure.

We were due to travel 12 June. We have spent weeks trying to contact Sykes. 1 day before balance due they got in touch. No cancel option just move date. No availability of dates. Whilst we were doing this they took £1800 from our bank. We have spoken with them and they now want a full deposit for the changed date 1 year hence when we booked on low deposit under different terms. Weeks on and we are still trying to recover our cash. Our owners have done their best to assist. Huge stress at difficult time. Thank you Sykes. Never again.

AVOID!!Very expensive holiday house booked in Feb for mid July departure. £1.6k deposit of. Balance £3.5k due 5 June. Been trying for several weeks to change date of holiday as several in our group in 80s/90s and others travelling here from abroad (quarantine!). Sykes say they need owners permission and owner not responding. They tell me they will not pursue owners anymore and my case is closed!! Terrible customer service. It seems as though they WANT us to default and not pay the balance, thereby nulling the contract.

Worse Travel Agency Ever!! The Owners of the cottage 'Blue Sky Cottages aurae nairn Scotland' are just as bad!! Sykes should not be allowed to operate. This was the first time we have ever used them and will most definitely be the last! People who book with this company might aswell go and get your money and throw it straight into a fire and watch it burn, because booking with Sykes is exactly that! Seriously avoid this company, once they have your money, you will get no more customer service from them, no response from them and simply NOWHERE with them. They have £1575 of OUR hardworking money that we stupidly handed over to them and won't give us it back. They cancelled our holiday due to the Covid-19, which we completely understood but then only offered us a change in date. As we were going away with all the family to celebrate 3 special birthdays, we could not unfortunately get the same time off again. Sykes never returned any of our phone calls or emails over the last 2 months once they learned that we wanted a refund and not a change in date! Sykes told us that it would be down to the owner of the cottage if they wanted to refund us and told us to phone them. My husband phoned the owner Simon and was very abruptly spoken to and was told he had no right contacting him. When my husband explained Sykes had told him to , he said to my husband he was lying! He then said that he was busy and he would phone my husband back when he is ready! We have yet to receive that phone call and as our holiday has now passed, we aren't expecting to hear from either Simon or Sykes. So if anyone out there is thinking of booking through Sykes or the cottage we had booked which was 'Blue Sky Cottages aurae nairn Scotland ' seriously DON'T! I am not happy about the way I have been treated by Sykes Cottages!! They took the full balance from my account in April for a cottage booked in May which they knew I would not be able use do to the "Coronavirus Travel Restrictions." They misled me into claiming what I thought would be a full refund for my holiday and then withheld nearly £200 in booking and commission fees. They seem to think that witholding fees for a future booking is a "goodwill gesture." The "ex-gratia" credit terms and conditons threaten the withheld fees will be void if any action is taken to reclaim a full refund. This is not good service in any shape or form!!

Dreadful dreadful dreadful, avoid avoid avoid I am 57 years old, I have never put in a complaint against about a travel company before, but please please please avoid thou s company, they are nothing but a bunch of leeches, who saw covid 19 as a moneymaking opportunity for them. They made every ounce of profit that they could possibly squeeze out of what was an impossible situation for most. When other companies worked with the it customers, they just squose squose squose, well I will remember the companies who helped and those who took advantage, long after this is done, thieving bastards, and if you are wondering why I am complaining here and not directly on their website, that is because there is a stop on their emails, you can't send one through to them until 30days before holiday I as due, I have a complaint and in three weeks time I will be able to tell them approximately. Don't book with them

I am 57 years old and this is the first time I have ever complained about a tourist company. I don't normally swear but I am now forced to. These are nothing but inconsiderate thieving bastards, they are using the covid 19 virus to make money out of people, despicable, I have used this company several times but never again, I will make sure every one I know knows to avoid avoid avoid

We have used this company happily over the years and believed them to be honest. Never again! They owe us £500 for a cottage booked on Skye this week but not available due to Covid and are refusing any refund. This is contrary to Competition and Markets authority guidance. Hopefully they can be pushed into insolvency which will make refunds on Credit Cards easier and take a bad apple out of the market

Booked for a cottage in Wales. With coronavirus we wanted to rebook, and tried for a month to do this. Many, many emails later and we were no further forward having had no meaningful response from anyone. We were left with the options of losing our deposit of 260 pounds or paying the full 700 pounds with no guarantee that they would rebook it for us, or that we'd be obliged to take the holiday with the current lockdown restriction in Walesl, or we'd just lose our money. We ended up cancelling and losing the deposit; could risk losing 700 odd and have no holiday. The worst customer service and holiday company experience I've ever had. Please avoid this company like the plague.

No full refund due to covid. Yes tough times but absolutely abmissal lack of contact and extremely poor customer service. Will never use Sykes again or it's affiliates after many loyal years of booking holidays. No way to treat your customers

Awful company We had booked a cottage with Abritel Homeaway who works with this horrible company. As we can't go to scotland because of the lockdown we've asked to postpone our holiday in September . Impossible they couldn't find any solutions even for another rent. and they refused to refund our prepayment 150 pounds This is unacceptable, they just profit of the situation Never rent anything with them Awful !!!

We had a booking in June but had to cancel because of the financial implications of the Coronavirus. This was done on March 18th and an acknowledgment was received confirming this shortly after. However despite this a whopping £582 was taken out of my account last month. This has caused a lot of financial hardship and stress at a time when I least needed it. Your company has been very uncompromising stating that only bookings made up until May 31st could be refunded. WHY? And why did you go ahead and debit my account after canceling the booking three months before and why won't you refund my money? We tried to have this money refunded and my sister (who the booking was made under) was coerced into taking another one-a whole year away. She is elderly and vulnerable and unable to stand up to the hard sell tactics of your agents. We now have a holiday we didn't want nor could afford but have been charged for regardless. This is booked over a year from now and no one knows what the situation will be like then. Your actions have been shamefu, selfishl and insensitive to say the least. Please refund the money wrongly taken from my credit card with immediate effect. Anyone reading this please take note of the kind of company they are.

I am disgusted with this company. I had to cancel my holiday booked for 17th July. My family cannot travel from Thailand because of coronavirus. I still had to pay 216 pounds to cancel. I booked this in December. I am self employed so am not earning at the moment. Took out insurance . They can't help either because it's not in the lockdown period. People can not travel to the uk from Thailand for the foreseeable future. Had to cancel now because the full amount was being taken out of my bank on 5th June. You would think that they would consider having to cancel through no fault of our own

It's quite a shame I have to even give this company a 1 star rating... This horrendous company has ignored every single email I have sent them over a 2 month period, their response over the pandemic has been nothing but a disgrace. They have essentially stolen my grandfathers pension and thousands of other peoples money too. When I finally decided enough was enough, I went onto social media to spread the word of my distaste for these cowboys, they blocked me! Yep, they didn't have the time or courtesy to respond to any of my emails but they have time to block me on social media. This company's reputation is clearly more important than their customers. As long as I have breath in my lungs, I am going to be relentless in bringing this company to its knees... I know thousands of you are in the same situation as me also, I urge you to keep persisting with them and spread the word far and wide to steer clear of these scumbags.

I too have been subjected to "Shady Sykes" after having booked to go on 15th May, I was given the choice of-: change booking dates (my circumstances wouldn't allow that) or cancel by paying the balance of the deposit (£157 on top of the £20). If I didn't, they were taking the full amount of £470 by 3rd April. My credit card company said I had to pay, as at the time of booking, I had agreed to Shady Sykes' terms and conditions. I have now joined a Facebook group, dedicated to those members being fleeced by that company. It is fantastic. A prominent lawyer, Dean Durham, has offered his services, and issued templates of letters to send, along with other advices. The group is called COVID-19 SYKES COTTAGES. Lots of people, through perseverance, have had their money back. I'm not giving up, even though my loss is much less than some. Good luck everyone- and bad luck Shady Sykes!

Booked with Dream Cottages a sub company of Sykes. Paid £380 deposit in December for Fisherman’s Steps West Bay. Due to go 4th July but tried to contact The company several times by email as I was taking 89 year old mother with COPD And she needs to stay home where we are looking after her. I would have booked for next year if they had agreed but could get no reply. I even offered the deposit to be held against a future date but no reply. Cancelled yesterday as the balance would have been due today. Have written requesting refund but given the track record suspect they will not reply. They have lost a customer for sure. I wonder what the flat owner thinks of the way they act on their behalf. So have lost £380 at this time. Appalling. I know of other companies who have been far more customer friendly. No telephone number available for them.
