This company will not respond to your emails also they have shut down anyway of contacting them and they will not give full refunds as they say commission which is wrong as they should be giving people the option of a refund or rebook I wish someone from Sykes would contact me and our remaining balance should not be taken until at least a week before due to travel during this pandemic absolutely shocking Sykes start treating people with respect so if you want book a cottage contact the owners directly

We had a holiday booked in for the end of May, we had paid in full for our holiday, unfortunately as both myself and my partner are key workers we are unable to rebook another date, and have only received a partial refund, despite having requested a full refund. We have sent several emails and they only reply on rare occasions a good few days later. It seems that the amount they will not refund to us, is their commission, however on their latest email to us stated that it's the owners reasonable costs/charges(how they feel almost £200 is reasonable when we haven't even stepped foot in the property is beyond me!). I would absolutely advise everyone to stay well away from this sham company. Even 1 star is too much for these criminals.

What a brilliant website. Clearly a bi-dimensional world we live in. THIS WEB SITE TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT SYKES HOLIDAY COTTAGES. NOT ONE GOOD REVIEW. If you believe Trust pilot they are an excellent company. Maybe I missed something - Sykes do not reply to emails or answer a phone - I've held for 45 minutes!!! So maybe if their staff stopped issuing dodgy reviews they'd have more time to clarify their illegal retention of peoples monies. You will be made to pay for holidays you cannot take. Stop your card used for your deposit and contact CMA and your MP. Somehow these directors must be proscecuted. Equally strange is Chester trading standards know of the issues but refer you to Citizens Advise, who are building a case for them? Pressumably.(

Do like we did and cancel your card with your bank before sykes can take it. They were trying to make us pay for a holiday they knew the owner had cancelled and rang us saying they couldn't stop the payment being taken. Well we stopped it for them. They weren't happy and kept saying we were breaking the contract but they didn't frighten us. Just cancel your cards and they can't do anything about it and ignore the threats.

They don't answer the phone and do not respond to emails. Have a holiday booked in 2 weeks time and they appear to be avoiding dealing with the issue. I have never come across such poor customer care in my life and from what I understand they are refusing to give refunds. Will be seeking legal help if they do not respond to my emails within the next 24 hours

Truly appalling company. Due to travel in the lock down period, told them not to try and take money from my account - £2,000, they did try but lucky for me I cancelled my card so all they have is my £20. Then the usual trail of emails, asking me to pay their commission! If the lock down continues through July/August they will break due to the sheer numbers travelling then. Good luck getting your money back.

COVID-19 brought out the best in some & the worst in others. Deposit paid.....waiting to go. We can't travel for the dates we had booked. Didn't matter because the cottage wasn't available. I don't want to book dates next year as unsure what I'm doing. Refused to refund £400 + deposit. I have no other experience of this business....I never will.

I've used Sykes in the past without problem. However I had made a full payment for a cottage in early June 2020 which is now not possible under lock down. I cant move my booking to 2021 as the owner has pulled the property from their list. Sykes Customer service passed my first two inquiry's to their 'task force' a month ago, but they have not responded to me despite several calls and emails, now SYKES have closed the customer service support line so you cant speak to them. I am very annoyed with this and may potentially loose a lot of money. I can only presume Sykes are about to go bust and are doing damage limitation by not speaking to their customers. At this time in 2020 I would recommend NOT using this company.

Disgusting customer service, constantly lying, refusing to give refunds, closing phone lines and ignoring emails during the Pandemic , DO NOT USE SYKES they are also posting fake 5 star reviews on Trust pilot a site that is owned by the same company that owns Sykes, if you want to read the truth about the disgraceful behaviour and treatment of customers tap the 1 star feedback on trust pilot .

These people must have off shore accounts putting our money away so if they go bust (that will happen) we will never see a penny again!! What a sorry state that some businesses get up to, just to line their own pockets with people's well earned money.Sykes you are a rip off company hope you get your well earned deserts

As a property owner I can tell you Sykes Cottages are just as unfeeling and indifferent to us owners. I have just posted on Trustpilot a dreadful experience when my property in Keswick flooded in 2005. A while ago admittedly but it would indicate they have a long history of poor customer relations. I had to pay commission on cancelled bookings and even an excess when bookings were reassigned to more expensive properties. Sykes demanded all sorts of proof and are trying to get Trustpilot to remove it. I hasten to add my posting is one of many, take a look. I am suspicious of some of the 5 stair postings, again, take a look.

Paid minimum deposit of £20 when we booked a two week holiday in January, for end of June, into early July, (during lockdown time.) Having read all the terrible reviews from the poor people who have paid in full and unable to get refunds, I decided to cancel my credit card and also lock the account so that they couldn't take the final payment on May 9th. Almost immediately I started getting emails, giving me the link to pay in full or option to pay cancellation fee. I've ignored them all - why should I pay for a holiday I can't have? Or cancellation fee? It's not my choice to cancel - I would have loved to go on holiday. As understand it, cottage owners can claim for loss of income from the government. And Sykes? All they've earned is contempt! I'm still getting plenty of emails from them, encouraging me to pay in full or cancel. If I don't pay, apparently my holiday will be cancelled! What a laugh - of course it's cancelled and not by my choice. I will continue to ignore them. OK, I've lost my £20 initial booking deposit, but I'm prepared to take that loss. I dare say they'll blacklist me, but do I care? Not a jot - I've no intention of ever using them again to book a holiday. I just thought I'd write this to encourage anyone else in a similar position. Don't be bullied by Sykes. If your holiday was booked for lockdown period, you owe them nothing so don't pay up. You can see from other reviews that you won't easily get a refund.

Due to go on holiday on 11th April 2020, had to fight long and hard for a refund (which was partial). Told they will give us a credit on our Sykes account for the remainder they owe us (saying it's their commission payment). Refused this numerous of times and requested all monies to be refunded. Again sent numerous emails, ignoring these completely. Refused to give owners details to us, yet kept telling us our contract was with the owner. This company change the rules to suit themselves. A commission payment is for goods/services provided, yet they haven't provided this, so this money should be refunded to us. I would strongly advise against using Sykes to book through!

The worst company I have Ever dealt with! Shocking disregard for customers. They took money from my bank account even though we had agreed that the cottage would not be available due to Covid 19. Eventually after many weeks, some of my money was returned with the rest being held by the company to be used against a future holiday, I really do not want Any more dealings with this type of organisation!

Horrendous company, do not use, sykes do not refund the customers the full amount paid, they will deduct commission for a holiday not taken due to government guidelines, avoid at all costs

Sykes have really let themselves down - absolutley awful company to deal with. They will take full monies even if you cannot take the holiday due to lockdown. Having posted a poor review with Trust pilot - they then block your review and post 5 star reviews to re- boost their rating. If it wasn't so serious that customers and holiday home owners are loosing money it would be laughable!!!! I SAY AGAIN ONLY BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOOSE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. The only ones making awful amounts of money are Sykes directors. The CMA should legal sort this company out.

Booked a holiday through Sykes before the lockdown and paid a deposit. When lockdown happened asked Sykes not to take the balance, but they went ahead and did so despite knowing that we would not be able to take the holiday. They then sent an email telling me that I could change the booking date, but only for the same property. I tried doing this, but the property was unavailable for the whole of 2021! I have since tried emailing Sykes again, but rather than get a response to my query, they told me to visit my booking and change the date of travel. Totalling disregarding my advice that the property could not be re-booked as it was unavailable. I tried calling them, but an automated message informed me that they had disconnected the phones whilst dealing with a backlog of holidaymakers trying to amend their bookings. Today, May 16, I received three emails from Sykes asking me to book a holiday through them! Fat Chance - Book with these Crooks - NEVER!!!!!

I booked a holiday with Sykes holiday cottages back in January, I have been trying to speak to someone about this for over a week now nothing. As they have told me I can’t go in the dates I have asked for. I have just found out this morning they have gone to my bank and now taken all the money for a holiday I can’t go on. This is not right how can they do things like this, they have told me if I want a holiday it will be October or November, why would I want to go then, and if I move the dates to next year they will charge me extra for that. My last time with Sykes no help at all.

I also booked a holiday with sykes and I was told that because I cancelled my holiday and as the restrictions with their company are up to 31/05/20 we would be travelling 27/06/20 they miraculously know and not even the government know that the lockdown may be over with I have like everyone else paid a considerable amount of I may add hard earned money for this holiday and I want some recompense for my monies paid .is it up to the owners discretion or is it the company Sykes who are not offering refunds we need to know as martin Lewis says we are entitled to a refund
