Firstly the shower was blocked. Water came through the ceiling when the shower was on. There was running damp on two of the living room walls. No off road parking as specified. Last but not least the cottage has rats. Sykes don’t want to know and won’t speak to me. The cottage was Tub boat cottage in coalport.

Phoned to tell you that Dartmoor 2 cottage was dirty not been covid cleaned as the sofas underneath had not been vacuumed, dirty tissues found, kitchen on top of units thick with grease, downstairs toilet dirty and broken, waste of time calling you

Just giving update I like most other people ran into a lot of trouble with Sykes To cut a very long story short I have now got all my money back £209. Would not surprise me if they were paying the lower amounts first so that they can report to the CMA that they are complying with their instructions. I wish everyone all the very best in getting their refunds Not sure that this company will learn their lesson If anyone books with this company please read their updated terms and conditions PS they are not the only holiday company who have tried to conn us all

Do not deal with this company. They will apply terms that are listed as 'unfair' legally (ie illegal) and will either try to charge a large deposit in spite of cancellation or refuse to refund a deposit. Avoid them.

Great description of our holiday cottage - clean and well appointed - total smooth free booking and also contact with the owner. The whole process was seamless - one issue upon arrival was dealt with by the owner within a couple of hours. A great staycation.

From start to finish nothing went right. Thoroughly disgusting company that should no longer be in business.

We arrived at Ty Hydref in Beaumaris at 4 pm Friday 28th August to find dirt everywhere including the cooker, chairs, rugs and the sink pedestal. The kitchen floor was covered in crumbs and there was a half used toilet roll that previous residents had obviously touched. Worse of all , and most worrying , was a bag of someone else’s rubbish on the bedroom bannister . Totally unacceptable. Sykes Cottages final resolution offered at 8.45pm ,after we had been sat outside in our car for nearly fours hours ,was firstly could we just get into the bed and it get cleaned tomorrow ! Or we could go to a hotel and they would get it cleaned the next day. Not acceptable when we had paid £600 and only had a three night stay anyway. We obviously left , it was too late to drive home and paid ourselves to stay in a hotel which we had to travel another 30 miles away. Due to the bank holiday we have been unable to find any other accommodation in the area and had to return home to celebrate our Pearl Wedding anniversary. We advised Sykes Holiday that we both have health issues that make us vulnerable . We are now b pursuing a formal complaint

The worst company I have ever dealt with. I booked a holiday cottage to coincide with my trip to the UK from Australia (booked before Covid became a 'Thing'). My flights to the UK have been cancelled so I cannot travel to the UK. I tried to cancel the booking without any financial loss as it is not my fault at all that the holiday cannot go ahead. The company (when I finally got through to someone....at least 15 telephone calls, of which I was on hold for at least 40mins each time and more emails with replies that someone would contact me) reported that although I cannot fly from Australia, the area of the UK that I had booked was not a restricted area. HOW HILARIOUS!!!! I am restricted by not being able to leave Australia you wombats!!!! SYKES do not care whatsoever and are just reaping the money out of individuals who through no fault of their own cannot travel! I have to pay nearly $1000 to not go on a holiday that I had no plans to cancel at all!!

Booked a holiday cottage in Ireland (from NZ) for April 2020. Due to Covid in March, had to see what my options were. Called Sykes, wasn't offered a refund (policy - no refunds) I could move the dates. Moved to September, Covid still rampant, travelers from NZ not allowed into Ireland without a 2 week isolation. Also, Sykes were now offering refunds for holidays that couldn't be taken in April. Requested a refund, no refund, as I had moved my holiday. Meanwhile Sykes requested further funds for a cottage I couldn't access. When I didn't pay further funds by due date, holiday was cancelled by Sykes. Asked for a refund, was told I had cancelled my holiday therefore no refund. Wouldn't touch them with an extremely long barge pole!

Made a booking for specific date. Give the date I did not ask for. When I said it was not my mistake they could not care less. Very unhelpful. Awful company and staff.

After finding out myself, 2 weeks ago, that my cottage had been double booked (Sykes system error), Sykes still haven't sorted anything for me and still have all my money. The service is diabolical. No one ever calls you back and they never respond to emails. Stay well clear of this shambolic company.

Appalling customer service. They never ring you back (if you can even actually get through) and they never answer emails. Never book with Sykes. They are a shambolic organisation. Through my online portal, I found out myself, that my booking for September 2020 had been cancelled. Their system error, and the cottage has now been booked to someone else. Still 2 weeks after me raising this with Sykes they've still not sorted anything out. I had this booked first and they will not honour my booking. Still an on going battle and only 2 weeks to go before my holiday with no accomodation.

Terrible Company. Originally due to travel 2 weeks after lockdown was imposed, i was denied a refund (even a credit refund) and was forced to rebook with a 30% price increase. Even after the CMA Undertaking has told them to refund the affected customers, they still refuse to do this. Emails take weeks to respond to. Phone calls take hours to connect. Do not book with this company.

I booked a holiday in May through Sykes cottages but had to cancel because of government guidance. They would not offer a refund or a voucher but said that I could book the same venue but wanted to charge 29% more for the identical week in 2021!! I have had a protracted correspondence with them in which they have contradicted themselves and shown no regard whatsoever for what the laughingly call “customer service”. They have trashed their market reputation since the pandemic started - don’t touch them with a barge pole!!

Just returned from a 7 night stay at cedarwood cabin in Sussex. Had a lovely week and the cabin was as as good as it looked in the photos as advertised. A very peaceful and cosy place to stay, and peter and Karen were great hosts who couldn’t do enough for you. Would definitely recommend this for a relaxing break in the Sussex countryside.

I booked a much needed holiday for August and two months prior to the date asked for some simple confirmation of cleaning standards prior to our week. Please be aware that there are now guidelines for agents and owners on how to help protect hirers during these time’s. With members of our party in the higher risk groups it felt like a reasonable request especially as I made it clear I was not asking for guarantees. Not only did they refuse but they did so in writing showing a total disregard for the well-being of its customers, Now lost my deposit, am navigating their complaints procedure which should take days but we are now into weeks and still awaiting any satisfactory response. Clearly from reading other feedback I am not the first or likely to be the last who is horrified at this companies total disregard for the customer and their health and well-being. Am not writing to my MP, Trading Standards and Health and Safety Executive and would encourage others to do likewise.

If it were possible to give zero stars.... Dealing with this company has been really challenging, it feels like having a second job......one that you really really hate. Whilst acknowledging that the current law in Wales is in place until the 26th September unless changed, and that the law clearly states that lets can only go ahead if they are for single or extended households, they are refusing engage with very reasonable queries related to the responsibilities of the owner in terms of health and safety and the validity of insurance. The responses from the customer relations teams contradict the public statements from their CEO, who claims that the company is following government guidance. I have several emails where we have been told that the multi household issue is ‘just guidance’ and it’s up to us to make a decision, it took many communications for them to concede that in Wales this is in fact law. If it was possible to give no stars then that would have been my preference.

Completely agree with feedback from others - this company is a rip off merchant. They have blamed us for damage we didn’t cause (a hole in a window which is clearly an old break and has very obviously been there for some time.) No amount of arguing our case makes any difference, they are being totally unreasonable. Other small faults have been flagged too, such as a dirty handprint on wallpaper which is easily removed with a wet cloth! They say it’s child and dog friendly but expect the place to be pristine. We cleaned the place thoroughly before leaving but they’re nitpicking over little things and saying we didn’t clear up which is total fibs. I’ve always cleared up wherever I’ve gone. They are trying to make money out of us is my feeling and have already taken £200 bond out of my account without my consent. I’m livid. This is company is a money-making scam, do not use them!
