I booked a holiday in May through Sykes cottages but had to cancel because of government guidance. They would not offer a refund or a voucher but said that I could book the same venue but wanted to charge 29% more for the identical week in 2021!! I have had a protracted correspondence with them in which they have contradicted themselves and shown no regard whatsoever for what the laughingly call “customer service”. They have trashed their market reputation since the pandemic started - don’t touch them with a barge pole!!

Just returned from a 7 night stay at cedarwood cabin in Sussex. Had a lovely week and the cabin was as as good as it looked in the photos as advertised. A very peaceful and cosy place to stay, and peter and Karen were great hosts who couldn’t do enough for you. Would definitely recommend this for a relaxing break in the Sussex countryside.

I booked a much needed holiday for August and two months prior to the date asked for some simple confirmation of cleaning standards prior to our week. Please be aware that there are now guidelines for agents and owners on how to help protect hirers during these time’s. With members of our party in the higher risk groups it felt like a reasonable request especially as I made it clear I was not asking for guarantees. Not only did they refuse but they did so in writing showing a total disregard for the well-being of its customers, Now lost my deposit, am navigating their complaints procedure which should take days but we are now into weeks and still awaiting any satisfactory response. Clearly from reading other feedback I am not the first or likely to be the last who is horrified at this companies total disregard for the customer and their health and well-being. Am not writing to my MP, Trading Standards and Health and Safety Executive and would encourage others to do likewise.

If it were possible to give zero stars.... Dealing with this company has been really challenging, it feels like having a second job......one that you really really hate. Whilst acknowledging that the current law in Wales is in place until the 26th September unless changed, and that the law clearly states that lets can only go ahead if they are for single or extended households, they are refusing engage with very reasonable queries related to the responsibilities of the owner in terms of health and safety and the validity of insurance. The responses from the customer relations teams contradict the public statements from their CEO, who claims that the company is following government guidance. I have several emails where we have been told that the multi household issue is ‘just guidance’ and it’s up to us to make a decision, it took many communications for them to concede that in Wales this is in fact law. If it was possible to give no stars then that would have been my preference.

Completely agree with feedback from others - this company is a rip off merchant. They have blamed us for damage we didn’t cause (a hole in a window which is clearly an old break and has very obviously been there for some time.) No amount of arguing our case makes any difference, they are being totally unreasonable. Other small faults have been flagged too, such as a dirty handprint on wallpaper which is easily removed with a wet cloth! They say it’s child and dog friendly but expect the place to be pristine. We cleaned the place thoroughly before leaving but they’re nitpicking over little things and saying we didn’t clear up which is total fibs. I’ve always cleared up wherever I’ve gone. They are trying to make money out of us is my feeling and have already taken £200 bond out of my account without my consent. I’m livid. This is company is a money-making scam, do not use them!

People do not book with company they are rip off merchants ,we booked a cottage for December 29th 2020 for my wife’s 50th birthday there was 7 going but due to coved and 3 people in our party being made redundant we asked them if we could move our deposit to march 2021 they refused we wanted a smaller property because of people not being in work ,we paid nearly 500 pounds deposit they said we would have to go through our travel insurance not holding my breath .just a warning people this company I feel are in financial problems .oh and they do ask for your email address when you leave your review oh well.

Went through the booking process where I was promised a pet free cottage only to discover that assistance dogs are not classed as pets. I made the booking ,not reading T and Cs where it said there could be no guarantee that a dog had not been in the property. I have an allergy whether it is a pet or an assistance dog. It was not made clear during the advertising process that pets were not allowed but assistance dogs were. I have suggested that Sykes do this, a simple enough statement no pets but assistance dogs allowed. But to say assistance dogs are allowed in all properties in the advertising process is only fair to both people who need such animals and to people with animal allergies. I feel I have been discriminated against and lost money, through no fault of my own. Your seemed reluctant to take this on board. Can you say why?

Never try to book a pet free cottage with Sykes as pet free doesn't mean pet free. 3 lovely advert stages tell you that the cottage is pet free, even the representative I spoke to claimed the cottage I had booked was pet free. However, the terms and conditions say otherwise. The company cannot guarantee there has not been a pet in the property. I did not read the terms and conditions, fair enough, but I think it is a misrepresentation. How can they offer pet free then claim it isn't. Interesting to see if this review appears on your website.

They promised refund in 30 days am still waiting can not contact them by phone no satisfactory reply to e-mails just a generic one saying the are busy(what they really mean is "They are playing for time") As they threatened me with legal action if I did not pay the full deposit I have now done the same to them will see what happens. I would not touch this company with a barge pole ever again which is a shame. To anyone who reads this be aware that Sykes operate under a number of different trading names

I wish i could give 0 stars! Dont try and contact customer services or expect a reply to e-mails, it will never happen! CEO should be ashamed to think he is running such an incompetent company when it comes to customer service.

Sykes customer service is appalling. I spent 2 hours on hold (from abroad, costing me € 30) trying to reach customer services as we had to pay a deposit for a holiday we had to cancel due to quarantine restrictions. Now, months later, it appears we will get a refund on our deposit. However, we have been waiting for our refund for well over a month and Sykes does not answer any of our emails except for standard replies that email response times are now 21 days(!). There is no way to reach them.

This company have shown themselves to be money grabbing and extremely sly regarding refunds due to the pandemic. I was originally told that because my holiday was booked during lockdown, I would not receive a refund. My only option was to rebook a later date or lose my money. Which I did do but doing so cost me more money. Only to find out later on Watchdog that Sykes were offering a full refund. I complained and was told that because I’d rebooked , I couldn’t claim a refund , even though at the time I had no choice. This holiday has cost me more in the long run, a fact being I wasn’t at fault. There is no way I would recommend them to anybody after the way they treat there customers

We have booked two years running with Sykes. The holidays were great and each time we booked for the following year as soon as we get home. Today we received an email offering £40 of our next booking if we booked within 21 days of returning, which we have. I waited for over an hour and 20 minutes to ask for the £40 to be deducted from my outstanding balance to be told that it could not be applied to my account as it is an existing booking! The girl I spoke to on the phone had pleaded with her manager to let her apply it but the manager refused. Disgusting customer service for a returning customer and unacceptable wait time on the phone. I have just rung to complain to be told there is no-one available to take my call and to leave my name and phone number and someone from finance will call me back! Let's see if they do! Very disappointed Sykes, you are quick enough to take our money for a new booking but seemingly your rewards system is a shambles!

Extremely poor customer service. Booked a property in February (for next New Year) and was very surprised to get an email from the company in July informing me that a decision had been made to apply a £150 deposit to the booking. There was no mention of this in the original agreement and no mention in the email of how the deposit would be administered or how any disagreements would be arbitrated. Repeated requests by email from me have elicited no response from the company. A phone call from me, involving a 30 minute wait, was answered by an agent unable to answer any of my questions.

DO NOT BOOK WITH SYKES HOLIDAY COTTAGES!!!. We booked our holiday and paid a small deposit. Unfortunately due tk the Covid 19 situation we had to cancel as borh our children were poorly and too sick to travel. Sykes have hounded us for (£258) 'Cancellation Fee'. The way Sykes has dealt with the Covid 19 situation is nothing short of apalling and they need to hang their heads in shame. I suffer from mental health issues and the antics of this company has made me feel a whole lot worse. I would never recommend this company and will be telling as many people as possible about their disgusting lack of customer care.

Reservations were booked in January 2020 to Sykes Cottages in England for September 27-Oct 3, 2020. Due to COVID-19 our flights to England from the US were cancelled. We reached out to them about changing our reservations to September 2021. We would not have cancelled our trip but there isn’t much we can do. Sykes Cottages would not refund our deposit or transfer our reservations to September 2021. Obviously, when we travel next year, if there are no restrictions, we will not be staying at Sykes Cottages. Not a good way to do business!
